Postdoctoral Position in Evolutionary Ecology of Plant-Animal Defense Mutualism
The Weber Lab in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at University of Michigan is seeking applicants for an NSF-funded postdoc position focused on the geography, ecology, and evolution of plant-mite defense mutualisms. The successful candidate will conduct field, museum, and greenhouse research quantifying investment in plant mite mutualism, including documenting the phylogenetic and geographic distribution of traits facilitating mutualism and evaluating the community of plant, arthropod, and microbial interactors across geography. Candidates with experience and/or interest in field ecology, phylogenetic comparative methods, GIS/spatial mapping, mutualism, arthropod identification, or plant-microbial (microbiome) interactions should apply.
The Weber lab values diversity and is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, supportive, and fun lab environment. Applications from candidates with related scientific interests who are also passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM are strongly encouraged. The lab is located in the beautiful Biological Sciences Building (which houses the Museum of Natural History) on University of Michigan’s campus. Ann Arbor is consistently rated as one of the most “live-able” cities in the country.
The appointment is for two years at 100% time, with a comprehensive benefits package. Continuation beyond the initial contract will be based on performance and availability of funding. The salary is based on UM salary scales and dependent on qualifications and experience. The start date for the position is flexible.
Interested applicants should submit: 1) Cover letter describing your qualifications, research interests and career goals, 2) A current curriculum vitae, 3) Contact information (including names, email addresses, and telephone numbers) for three references. References will be contacted before any offer is made. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit their materials to Marjorie Weber ([email protected]).
